Speaking during an interview on Ramogi TV on Tuesday, January 13, Wanga said ODM remains a democratic party that allows space for differing opinions among its members. She insisted that holding a view that differs from the party leadership does not amount to misconduct.
“ODM is a democratic party, and everyone is entitled to their opinion,” Wanga said.
“Discipline only applies when the party has made a binding decision and a member chooses to go against it.”
Her remarks come amid reports suggesting that Sifuna could face disciplinary action after missing a recent ODM Central Committee meeting and expressing reservations about the broad-based political arrangement.
Wanga questioned the basis of the expulsion claims, asking what offence the ODM Secretary General had committed to warrant such a drastic move.
“We are not chasing anyone out of ODM,” she said.

“What exactly has Sifuna done wrong to deserve expulsion?”
Addressing concerns over absenteeism at the Central Committee meeting, Wanga explained that the circumstances surrounding the absence of some members had been misunderstood.
She revealed that Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi had formally requested to be excused from the meeting as he is currently in South Africa on official Senate business.

According to Wanga, Osotsi is serving on the Senate Liaison Committee and could not abandon his official duties to attend the meeting.
“I have spoken to him several times while he is in South Africa,” Wanga said.

“He is expected back this week and was on official duty.”
On Sifuna’s absence, Wanga clarified that the senator had sent an apology explaining that he missed his flight, which prevented him from attending the meeting.
“That is something that can happen to anyone,” she said, adding that the meeting proceeded normally since quorum was achieved.
Wanga further emphasised that ODM’s internal processes are guided by fairness and respect for procedure, dismissing claims of internal chaos within the party.
The clarification appears aimed at quelling growing speculation about divisions within ODM as the party navigates shifting political alliances ahead of the 2027 General Election.
