"My Life Is in Danger" Bobi Wine Raises Alarm Over General Muhoozi Kainerugaba Threats

Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has issued a fresh warning about his personal safety, claiming that President Yoweri Museveni’s son is still threatening him and actively seeking to harm him. The outspoken politician said only the vigilance of ordinary Ugandans has kept him alive.

In a strongly worded statement shared with supporters, Bobi Wine alleged that Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the army chief and Museveni’s son, continues to intimidate him through public remarks and private signals. He described the threats as deliberate attempts to silence dissent and weaken the opposition ahead of future political contests.

Bobi Wine said he now lives under constant fear but remains determined to continue speaking for Ugandans who feel oppressed. “Our people are keeping me safe,” he noted, praising loyal supporters and activists who alert him to danger and help him move discreetly across the country.

The National Unity Platform leader has long accused the government of using the security forces to harass, arrest, and assault opposition figures. Since challenging Museveni in the disputed 2021 presidential election, Bobi Wine says his movements have been restricted and his supporters repeatedly targeted.

This latest accusation follows a pattern of tense exchanges between Bobi Wine and Muhoozi, who has gained notoriety for provocative social media posts. In the past, the army chief has openly mocked the opposition leader and made remarks that many critics interpreted as threats.

Human rights groups have expressed concern about the growing militarization of Ugandan politics and the shrinking space for free expression. Several organizations have documented cases of arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, and violence against opposition supporters.

Government officials, however, have dismissed Bobi Wine’s claims as exaggerated and politically motivated. They insist that Muhoozi, like any other senior officer, operates within the law and that no official plot exists against the opposition leader.
