Museveni's Son Gives Bobi Wine 48 Hours to Surrender After Alleged Escape from Security Raid

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, to surrender to police following reports that he escaped a joint military and police operation at his residence.

In a statement shared publicly on X, Gen Muhoozi described Bobi Wine as a “permanent loser” and warned that failure to surrender within the set timeframe would see him treated as an outlaw or rebel.

The remarks mark a sharp escalation in rhetoric as tensions remain high after Uganda’s disputed presidential election.

However, Bobi Wine’s party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), has alleged continued harassment of its leaders and claimed that some of his family members remain under tight security restrictions.

The developments follow an election period characterised by an internet shutdown, allegations of vote manipulation by the opposition, and reports of deaths linked to post-election violence.

Bobi Wine has rejected the declared results, which handed President Yoweri Museveni another term, and has called for peaceful resistance.
