In a statement on X, Ali described the incident as “horrifying” and a severe violation of Kenyans’ constitutional freedoms, highlighting that the attack put the lives of innocent worshippers, including the elderly and children, at risk.
He called on security agencies to respect places of worship and refrain from treating them as arenas for political confrontations.
"It is quite horrifying to witness such grave violations of our constitutional freedoms that put the lives of innocent Kenyans including the elderly and children at risk in a place of worship," the vocal MP said
According to reports, Gachagua was attending a Sunday service at Wairima ACK Church when an unidentified group allegedly confronted him.
Eyewitnesses said that in the chaos that followed, some worshippers were jostled and panic ensued, prompting church officials to seek assistance from local security personnel.
While no fatalities have been reported, several congregants sustained minor injuries as the situation escalated briefly before order was restored.
Ali emphasized that Kenya should not descend into political violence, especially in sacred spaces.
“Security agencies must understand that places of worship are not political battlegrounds and must restrain from using force in such premises. We surely cannot sink this low as a nation no matter our political differences.”
He urged authorities to investigate the matter promptly and ensure the protection of citizens exercising their right to worship.
