"Leave Office" Senator Karanja Hits Back at Kihika After Threats To Take Her To Court

A legal showdown may be looming between Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika and Senator Tabitha Karanja, as tensions over alleged defamatory statements continue to escalate.

Governor Kihika recently issued a demand letter to Senator Karanja, accusing her of making false claims linking the governor to land grabbing.

The alleged comments were reportedly made during a church service in Nakuru on December 21, 2025.

Through her lawyer, Ahmednasir Abdullahi, Kihika demanded an immediate and unconditional retraction of the statements, warning that failure to comply would result in legal action.

According to the governor’s legal team, the statements were malicious and intended to harm her reputation, exposing her to ridicule, hatred, and public scandal.

Kihika stressed that she has never misappropriated public funds or engaged in fraudulent business activities and that no public resources of Nakuru County were used in private ventures.

She also demanded that Senator Karanja admit liability and issue a public apology with the same prominence as the original statements within seven days.

However, Senator Karanja has refused to be intimidated by the threats. Speaking in Naivasha on January 10, 2026, she argued that her statements were part of her oversight role in safeguarding public resources.

She emphasized that questioning leaders is part of her duty and that she will continue to hold the county leadership accountable.

“The governor has the audacity to sue me for doing my oversight role of protecting the resources of the Nakuru people. We will question prudent use of public resources and defend the same in court if necessary,” Karanja stated.

The senator criticized the governor for failing to address critical public services in Nakuru, noting that many sectors are struggling to meet citizens’ expectations.

She also accused Kihika of not taking the necessary actions to improve the lives of residents.

“I will keep asking hard questions. I will defend the public and query prudent use of public resources. If you are a leader who doesn’t want to be questioned, then you should leave office,” Karanja said.

The feud between Kihika and Karanja is not new. The two leaders, both elected in 2022, were initially popular during campaigns, with many media outlets dubbing them the ‘Nakuru Girls’ due to their strong electoral appeal.

However, relations between them deteriorated soon after they assumed office and have remained strained.
