Kisii Mama Mbogas Warm Hearts After Raising KSHs 80K to Send Late Colleague's Daughter to Grade 10

A group of mama mbogas from Marikiti Market in Kisii County has won national admiration after coming together to secure a future for a vulnerable orphaned girl.

The women raised more than KSh 80,000 to help 15-year-old Fridah Luwoi join Grade 10, proving that compassion and unity can change lives.

Fridah lost her father two years ago. He had worked closely with the women at the market, and after his death, the teenager was left in the care of extended family members who showed little interest in her education.

Despite performing well in her Junior School assessment, Fridah’s situation worsened.

Her relatives reportedly planned to marry her off, cutting short her dreams and hopes of continuing with school.

Refusing to watch their late colleague’s daughter suffer, the mama mbogas shared Fridah’s story among themselves and decided to act.

From their small daily earnings, they contributed what they could until they raised enough money to support her transition to senior school.

Dressed in their market aprons, the women visited Kisii Comprehensive School, where Fridah had completed her junior studies.

Carrying shopping, a box, bedding, and other essentials, they represented her parents during the school process.

Teachers were deeply moved by the gesture. The school administration praised the women for sacrificing their limited resources to give a child a second chance at education.

The mama mbogas later escorted Fridah to Nyanchwa Girls High School, singing joyfully as they admitted her to Grade 10.

They paid her school fees in full and even raised pocket money before heading back to the market.

According to the women, their motivation was simple: to honour their late colleague and ensure his daughter feels supported and loved.

They have vowed to stand by Fridah throughout her education as she works towards her dream of becoming a doctor.

Their act of kindness has touched many Kenyans, serving as a powerful reminder that community care can rewrite even the hardest stories.
