Kibagendi was arrested on January 20, 2026, in Nairobi and taken to Muthaiga Police Station before being moved to Keroka and later Narok. The arrest was linked to CCTV footage from Kisii County showing Kibagendi allegedly assaulting another individual in public. The lawmaker pleaded not guilty to the charges.
On January 21, 2026, the Narok High Court granted Kibagendi bail of Ksh100,000, with the next hearing scheduled for March 2, 2026. The court required that he adheres to all bail conditions and attends future proceedings.
Kalonzo warned that forcibly transferring individuals and targeting political figures threatens citizens’ constitutional rights. He stressed that holding and expressing political opinions should not expose leaders or ordinary citizens to harassment or fear of state action.
The former Vice President talked on the importance of transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to legal processes. He argued that intimidation tactics risk undermining public trust in governance and could have political consequences for those in power.
