So tense was the meeting that the MPs allegedly threatened to dump Ruto if their demands were not met.
The legislators reportedly confronted the President on the evening of Monday, January 12, 2026, expressing deep frustration over the growing popularity of Governor Kimani Wamatangi and the successful mobilization by Gachagua's DCP party in the Mt. Kenya region.
Key among the demands was the immediate targeting of Governor Wamatangi. The MPs allegedly demanded that governor Wamatangi's popularity be checked.
Their second demand was for more forceful action to stop DCP meetings, allegedly requesting that police officers in civilian clothes work alongside state-sponsored individuals to disrupt gatherings in Kiambu and across the mountain.
Gachagua claims President Ruto was initially reluctant, warning that such measures could be counter-productive a year before an election.
However, faced with the MPs' threat to withdraw support, he allegedly yielded and issued the instructions.
According to Gachagua, the demands were swiftly acted upon. He states that Wamatangi's business premises were destroyed in a night operation supervised by police, and that the EACC is now preparing charges.
In his statement, Gachagua declared these measures an exercise in futility, asserting that the mountain region has already decided to send Ruto home in the 2027 election.
