Gachagua Alleges the Amount of Money Each Mt Kenya MCA Was Given to Attend DP Kindiki’s Meeting

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged the amount of money Members of County Assemblies from the larger Mt Kenya region were given to attend a meeting convened by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki last week.

Speaking during a stopover in Nyeri Town on Thursday, January 8, Gachagua claimed that MCAs who attended the meeting were allegedly given KSh 300,000 each.

The DCP party leader claimed the funds were intended to sway the MCAs politically and align them with the pro–President William Ruto camp.

Gachagua singled out Nyeri County MCAs for praise, saying the majority of them declined the alleged cash offer.

According to him, only two MCAs from the county attended the meeting, while the rest chose to stay away.

He identified the two as the MCAs from Chinga and Ruring’u wards, noting that the others rejected the money and remained loyal to the interests of Nyeri residents.

The former deputy president framed the refusal by most Nyeri MCAs as a principled stand, describing them as leaders who chose loyalty over personal gain.

"I want to thank our MCAs from Nyeri because they refused to be betrayers of our community. Last week, Mr Kindiki called all the MCAs from Mt Kenya and gave each KSh 300,000 to attend his meeting," Gachagua said.

The claims by Gachagua came after a meeting held on Sunday at Kindiki’s official residence in Karen, where the deputy president hosted MCAs affiliated with the United Democratic Alliance from across Mt Kenya counties.

The meeting brought together 205 MCAs from Nakuru, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Laikipia, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Kirinyaga, Murang’a and Kiambu.

After the meeting, Kindiki indicated that discussions focused on the role of MCAs in sensitizing party members ahead of grassroots UDA elections scheduled for Saturday, January 10, 2026.
