Betrayal? Museveni Remains Quiet as His Son Faces Imminent US Blacklist

The diplomatic firestorm that General Muhoozi Kainerugaba thought he had extinguished with a Friday morning apology has flared into a full-blown crisis.

On Saturday, January 31, Senator Jim Risch issued a lethal statement from Washington, declaring that the Chief of Defence Forces had "crossed a red line" that cannot be erased by simply deleting tweets.

The Senator emphasized that the President’s son and presumptive successor "cannot just issue hollow apologies" after threatening to end a 10-year military partnership and accusing US diplomats of kidnapping opposition figures.

The US is now formally weighing a review of security ties, which includes the potential suspension of military cooperation and the imposition of personal sanctions on General Muhoozi.

The sticking point for Washington isn't just the accusation regarding Bobi Wine but the reckless threat to pull UPDF troops from Somalia.
