"We Support Multipartism, Not Destruction of Parties" Mudavadi Fires Back at Uhuru On His Eyes

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi made it clear that the government remains committed to fostering a democratic and inclusive political environment In a powerful response to former President Uhuru Kenyatta's recent comments.

“As a government, we shall not obstruct the registration of political parties or their growth. We support multipartism,” Mudavadi declared, reinforcing the administration’s stance on political freedom.

Mudavadi’s statement came after Kenyatta accused President William Ruto of attempting to undermine the opposition ODM Party, led by Raila Odinga.

Kenyatta, who served as president before Ruto, expressed deep concerns about the current government’s role in weakening the country’s political opposition, something he believes is vital to Kenya’s democracy.

In a stern lecture to Ruto, Kenyatta stated, “Heshimu vyama vya watu wengine, wacha kuzivunjavunja. Wacha fikira mbovu na mambo ya upuzi!” which translates to “Respect other people’s parties, stop breaking them. Stop with your bad ideas and foolishness!”

His comments echoed a growing sentiment among Kenyatta’s supporters who feel the current government is overstepping its bounds by disrupting opposition movements.

Mudavadi’s remarks, however, suggest a differing viewpoint, one that leans heavily on promoting the idea that Kenya’s political scene should allow for the healthy competition and growth of all political parties.

While defending Ruto’s administration, he emphasized the importance of maintaining a pluralistic democracy where opposition parties are allowed to thrive.

On a personal note, Kenyatta also took the opportunity to honor his long-time political ally, businessman and politician Cyrus Jirongo, with a heartfelt message: “Kwa ndugu yangu Jirongo nasema lala salama, upumzike kwa kazi mingi ambayo umefanya. Walenya hawatakusahau!” which means “To my brother Jirongo, I say rest in peace for the great work you have done. The people of Kenya will not forget you!”

This exchange has sparked heated discussions among Kenyans, with many closely watching the ongoing political rivalry.
