President Samia Suluhu of Tanzania has been cautioned that she might soon find herself dealing with internal armed rebels if she completely refuses to listen to the people.
This comes amid complains from opposition figures and a section of citizens, who are accusing her and her CCM party of dictatorship and rigging the October 29 general election.
Activist Mange Kimambi has called for a quick solution to the problem, failure to which armed rebels groups could start emerging in the name of pushing for better governance.
Kimambi, herself a well known critic of Samia, says scenes similar to what is being witnessed in Congo, where M23 rebels are seizing territory, might start being witnessed in Tanzania if the government refuses to embrace change.
She has raised this alarm while calling upon the American government to intervene, pointing out that continental bodies have refused to help and appear to embrace Samia's doings.
"African Union, SADC and other African bodies are useless. It’s been 2 months since over 10,000 Africans were shot and killed by their own government and they have done nothing to assist Tanzanians," she says in a post on X.
"The US and EU is the last hope for Tanzania. If help doesn’t come Tanzania will end up like DRC as rebel groups will start forming to fight the illegitimate government."
Her remarks come at a time when the Tanzanian government has completely ignored calls from the European Union, which has demanded an end to what it calls human rights violations in Tanzania.
It has also defied calls to release political prisoners like CHADEMA Chairman Tundu Lissu, with the EU Parliament responding by proposing the suspension of funds to Tanzania.
This comes as the Tanzanian government seeks to have Kimambi repatriated from America, in a bid to punish her for allegedly inciting the October 29 protests.
