The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has dismissed claims of foul play in the death of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo, urging the public to avoid spreading unverified reports.
According to the report, DCI Director Mohamed Amin said investigations carried out so far show that the incident was a road accident.
He said the probe is still ongoing, but there is no indication of criminal involvement.
While speaking during a security visit in Kwale County, Mr Amin said the case was under active investigation and that there was no foul play involved.
He explained that findings so far show the death was purely a traffic accident.
Jirongo died on the morning of December 13 after his vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with a passenger bus along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway near Karai in Naivasha.
Police said he was driving alone at around three in the morning and was pronounced dead from severe injuries caused by the impact.
Mr Amin also assured Kenyans that security remains stable during the festive season despite isolated cases of crime in some regions.
He said police had noted an increase in some serious and violent crimes, such as murder and drug trafficking, but maintained that the situation was under control and that public safety remains a top priority.
He noted that security issues in Trans Mara and Tana River had been largely contained.
Five suspects have been arrested in Trans Mara, while another five were arrested in Tana River over recent clashes.
He urged those in possession of illegal firearms in Tana River to surrender them voluntarily.
The DCI boss also warned police officers against corruption following the arrest of two traffic officers in Diani.
He said the service does not condone corruption and that severe action will be taken against any officer found engaging in corrupt practices.
He urged the public to remain alert and report suspicious activities as officers remain on duty throughout the festive period.
