The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has finally revealed the top government officer who held a night meeting with Jirongo hours before he died.
Investigators confirmed that National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula was the last senior state official to meet the former Lugari Member of Parliament on the night preceding his death.
According to information now in the public domain, Jirongo and Wetangula met in Karen on the evening following Jamhuri Day celebrations.
The meeting took place between eight thirty in the evening and nine thirty at night before the two parted ways.
Shortly after the meeting, Jirongo began the journey that later ended in a fatal road crash.
Jirongo died in a collision involving his Mercedes Benz and a passenger bus along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway in the Karai area of Naivasha.
Early reports indicated that the accident occurred at night under circumstances that are still under investigation.
His body remains preserved at Lee Funeral Home as authorities continue to piece together events surrounding his final hours.
While addressing mourners at a separate burial ceremony, Wetangula reflected on the meeting and expressed shock at the sudden death of his long-time friend.
He noted that the meeting appeared normal and gave no indication of the tragedy that would follow just hours later.
The revelation has added a new layer to ongoing investigations into Jirongo’s death, which has attracted national attention due to his political stature and the unresolved questions surrounding the crash.
Detectives say they are reviewing timelines, movements and communications from the final hours to establish a clear sequence of events.
