Bobi Wine Suspects Museveni's Plot Days to Election, Starts Wearing Bulletproof Vest to Rallies

Robert Kyagulanyi, Uganda's NUP presidential candidate, has disclosed why he has been wearing armour to his campaign events.

Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, has claimed that this is because he is operating against very high odds of being shot at by government forces.

Speaking to CNN's Larry Madowo, he alleged that President Yoweri Museveni, who is also seeking another term in State House, is targeting him, making him opt to protect himself by also donning a bulletproof helmet.

Wine's campaigns have not been without issues, with law enforcers being witnessed blocking him from accessing the venues at times.

There have also been witnessed instances where himself and his supporters were roughed up and beaten up by police officers and soldiers, with some sustaining injuries.

He has issued a stern warning to the electoral commission to take charge of the electoral process or leave, alleging a plot by Museveni's NRM to rig him out during the January 15 poll using police officers.

“There is clear evidence that the criminal regime is recruiting and training a militia to terrorise citizens in the coming days.

These are Special Police Constables (SPCs)—provided for in the law and paid with taxpayers’ money," he said in a post on X .

He claimed that the rigging plot includes ballot stuffing and other fraudulent moves, in the name of protecting Museveni's vote.

Madowo's presence in Uganda is despite earlier warnings by Museveni that he is not welcome in the country after exposing what happened in Tanzania during the October demos.
