Former Member of Parliament (MP) who represented Lugari constituency in the National Assembly late Cyrus Jirongo.
Despite the fact that former Minister for Rural Development late Cyrus Jirongo was swimming in money during the reign of the late President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, sources have indicated that the former lawmaker had an unbelievable discipline that many heavyweights in the political arena struggle to match because of power money and influence.
As per the Daily Nation media group publication on Sunday 21, December 2025, even though Mr Jirongo owned many offices across the city and was untouchable, he would always go to his home(s) every day during the lunch break, in bid to share and bond with his loved ones who he really treasured.
As a result, Mr Jirongo would always drove to his home in the afternoons once in a while to Muthaiga and sometimes to Gigiri in Nairobi, sticking to a predictable diet of ugali, indigenous vegetable mrenda that was spiced up with beef or sometimes fish.
Upon returning to work after the lunch break, he would always step onto the balcony outside his offices where he smoked a number of cigerrates before taking a cup of black tea to cool him down.
As per the source, that was the ritual that the former lawmaker "loved the most".
