Nyamira Mum Heartbroken after Daughter Who Just Finished KCSE Dies in Accident That Killed 8

NYAMIRA – A devastating road accident in Ekerenyo Ward, Nyamira County, has left eight people dead and several others injured, plunging families into grief.

Among the victims was 18-year-old Kemunto, a bright student who had just completed her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams in November.

Linet Moraa, Kemunto’s mother, broke down in tears as she identified her daughter’s body at Nyamira County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.

She expressed deep sorrow over the loss of her daughter, noting that the family had been eagerly anticipating her results and celebrating her academic achievements.

“I am in so much pain right now. We had placed so much hope in her. We were waiting to celebrate her good performance after finishing Form Four,” Moraa said, her voice filled with anguish.

The accident occurred when an 11-seater matatu, traveling from Nairobi, collided head-on with a truck. Several passengers sustained injuries, with five admitted to the intensive care unit and two others receiving treatment in the accident and emergency department.

The hospital confirmed that two of the patients require neurosurgical intervention and are being referred for further care.

Nyamira County Governor Amos Nyaribo assured the public that the government would support the affected families during this difficult period.

“I will form a small committee to liaise with the affected families so that we can see how we can work together. In short, we shall stand with them 100%,” he said.

In a separate incident linked to the same crash, a couple and their one-year-old child, traveling from Nairobi to attend a relative’s funeral, also perished. Relatives called on authorities to assist in arranging proper burials for the victims.

Netizens expressed their condolences and shared prayers for the bereaved families, highlighting the emotional impact of such accidents on local communities.

Many appealed to drivers to exercise caution on the roads, especially during periods of high travel, such as festive seasons or school holidays.
