Moses Kuria Asserts Nairobi Needs Him More Than He Needs the County

Former President William Ruto’s economic advisor and Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) Party leader, Moses Kuria, has defended his intention to run for Nairobi County governor in 2027, insisting that the city requires his leadership more than he requires the office.

Speaking to local media on Monday, December 15, 2025, Kuria described Nairobi as being in a state of disarray that only his intervention could rectify.

He stressed that while he could survive without holding the gubernatorial seat, Nairobi cannot function effectively without his guidance.

“I don’t need Nairobi; Nairobi needs me,” Kuria stated.

“I can survive without being governor. I tried to be the governor of Kiambu in 2022. I am not worse—Kiambu is worse off. I am just trying to save Nairobi, and if Nairobi thinks it has a better candidate, so be it.”

Kuria drew parallels with Kiambu County, where he unsuccessfully vied for the governor’s seat in 2022.

He noted that the county remains in the state of mismanagement he had warned about during his campaign, suggesting that his foresight and proposed reforms could have made a significant difference.

The politician has been open about his gubernatorial ambitions for some time. Earlier, he had indicated that Madaraka MP George Aladwa would be his running mate in Nairobi.

However, Aladwa later denied any such arrangement, claiming that top government officials had cautioned him against associating with Kuria.

Looking ahead to 2026, Kuria revealed plans to scale back his political engagements, prioritizing the promotion of peace ahead of the 2027 elections. H

e stressed that both he and his party would focus on calming political tensions and ensuring that the upcoming elections are conducted smoothly.

“2026 will be the year in which I do as little politics as possible. We have this discussion as we head to Christmas next year. I am a political animal, and in 2027 we have an election, and I am a party leader with many elected officials. My commitment and that of my party is to ensure a peaceful election,” he explained.

Kuria emphasized that his decision to limit political activity does not imply disengagement from governance issues. Instead, he plans to use the year to strategically prepare for the 2027 elections while helping to maintain national stability during a critical electoral period.

The former Ruto advisor also reiterated that Nairobi County currently faces significant challenges, including administrative inefficiencies and service delivery gaps.

He claimed that his leadership experience and vision make him uniquely positioned to address these issues, proposing reforms that could enhance urban governance and improve the quality of life for residents.
