Fresh reactions have emerged following the death of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo as leaders weigh in on the circumstances surrounding the fatal road crash in Naivasha.
Former Vihiga senator George Khaniri has dismissed suggestions that Jirongo may have been intoxicated at the time of the accident.
He noted that the late politician was known to drive himself during evening outings but maintained that he never drove while drunk.
His remarks come amid growing public debate and conflicting accounts over Jirongo's final moments.
A postmortem examination conducted on December seventeen confirmed that Jirongo died instantly from severe injuries sustained in the crash.
Pathologists established that the cause of death was blunt force trauma resulting from multiple injuries to the chest, abdomen and spinal cord.
The examination revealed extensive rib fractures, a perforated heart, internal bleeding, abdominal injuries and spinal damage, all described as fatal.
The accident occurred on December thirteen along the Nairobi-Naivasha highway when Jirongo's vehicle was involved in a collision with a bus travelling towards western Kenya.
Witnesses gave varying accounts of the incident, including claims that the former legislator swerved into the bus lane shortly before impact.
CCTV footage reviewed by investigators shows Jirongo passing through a petrol station minutes before the crash without stopping to refuel.
A security guard at the station reported that the vehicle was moving at a moderate speed before heading towards the Nairobi side of the road.
Additional claims have surfaced from a bodaboda rider who alleged that Jirongo dropped off a woman shortly before the crash, while another witness said personal items believed to belong to a woman were found inside the vehicle.
These accounts have not been officially confirmed.
