Inside Ruto's Special Squad to Finish Gachagua's Growing Influence In Mt Kenya Before 2027 Polls

The Kenya Kwanza government has devised a multi-layered strategy to counter the growing opposition led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the greater Mt. Kenya region and other parts of the country.

This comes as the current Deputy President, Professor Kithure Kindiki, spreads his influence months after succeeding Mr. Gachagua, who was ousted from office through a parliamentary process last year.

The situation has now sparked a political duel between two top leaders in a region with a large voting population.

According to the report from Taifa Leo, a new group of technocrats has emerged with the mission of weakening Mr. Gachagua’s grip in regions where he is believed to wield strong political influence.

The sources has established that they have been ordered to shift the political tide toward the 2027 election while safeguarding their positions in government afterward.

A group of Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Board Chairpersons, Directors, and Heads of State Corporations drawn from Mt. Kenya and the diaspora are poised to be a squad President William Ruto is using to to regain the vote rich region and tone Gachagua's growing influence.

The report indicates that the team have been traversing the region in efforts to tilt the balance.

The team is led by Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni and also includes religious leaders, community elders, youth and women groups, as well as officials from the National Government Administration (NGAO), operating under a quiet grassroots political program.

Some of the Cabinet Secretaries from the region include William Kabogo, Alice Wahome, Mutahi Kagwe, Mary Miano, Erick Muriithi, and Geoffrey Ruku.

Other top government officials from the area include Deputy Head of Public Service Amos Gathecha, alongside Principal Secretaries Mary Muthoni (Health), Esther Mworia (TVET), Alex Wachira (Energy), Dr. Caroline Karugu (East African Community), and Elijah Mwangi (Sports).
