Guinness World Records Responds After Kenyans Troop To Its Page Demanding Recognition of Truphena Muthoni's Success

A powerful online campaign has erupted across Kenya as citizens demand official recognition for 22-year-old Truphena Muthoni, the young woman who hugged a tree for an astonishing 72 hours.

Her attempt, which drew national attention, was meant to set a new Guinness World Record and highlight the importance of environmental conservation.

Truphena, who comes from Nyeri, spent three days firmly holding onto an indigenous tree without stepping away, eating, or taking any form of break.

She said her aim was not only to set a global record but also to draw attention to deforestation and the destruction of natural ecosystems.

Many Kenyans followed her journey closely, celebrating her resilience and determination the moment she completed the challenge.

Immediately after Truphena finished her marathon, Kenyans turned to the official Guinness World Records social media pages, demanding a quick confirmation of her achievement.

Hundreds of comments praised her courage, while others questioned why Guinness had not yet acknowledged her attempt.

Some supporters insisted that Kenya deserved global recognition for producing a record-breaker, while others playfully urged Guinness to “hurry up” and honour her dedication.
The online pressure built rapidly as Kenyans tagged the organisation repeatedly, calling Truphena a national hero.

Faced with the heavy attention from Kenyans, Guinness World Records responded on social media, explaining why Truphena’s attempt had not yet been ratified.

According to their statement, the organisation must first receive formal evidence before a record can be verified. They added that they look forward to reviewing her submission once it is sent through the official process.

As of December 12, the organisation has neither approved nor rejected Truphena’s record. They emphasised that verification requires strict procedures and detailed proof to confirm whether she met all the required conditions.

One of the biggest questions online was how she managed to stay at the tree for three full days without stepping away — especially for a bathroom break.

Truphena later explained that she had trained for months and conditioned her body for the challenge. She insisted she did not leave the tree, take water, or consume any food during the 72 hours.

Her explanation sparked further admiration, with many Kenyans expressing pride in her discipline and the message behind her effort.
