Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is Sick, CS Ruku Confirms

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has revealed that Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is currently unwell, which prevented him from attending the Kimalel Goat Auction held in Baringo County on Monday, December 22.

Speaking during the event, CS Ruku informed residents that he was sent by the deputy president to represent him and deliver his message of unity and support to the people of Baringo.

He assured attendees that although Kindiki was absent physically, he remained fully involved in the programme.

Ruku explained that Kindiki personally contributed funds towards the goat auction despite his health condition.

According to the CS, the deputy president instructed him to purchase goats on his behalf as part of the Christmas celebrations, demonstrating his continued commitment to community initiatives.

“I have been sent by your deputy president, who is not feeling well. He asked me to greet the people of Baringo and assured me that he is with you in spirit. He also sent money to support this event by buying goats for Christmas,” Ruku told the gathering.

The Kimalel Goat Auction is a community-driven initiative aimed at supporting local farmers and promoting economic empowerment through livestock trade.

Ruku praised the programme, saying it plays a vital role in strengthening livelihoods in arid and semi-arid regions.

Looking ahead, the CS proposed that similar goat auction festivals be introduced in other regions, including Mbeere North in Embu County, starting in 2026.

He noted that such events can help boost incomes for pastoralists while encouraging food sustainability.

Ruku also used the opportunity to commend President William Ruto for prioritising food security, particularly in drought-affected areas across the country.

He mentioned counties such as Turkana, Mandera, Taita Taveta, Garissa, and Wajir as regions where the government has intensified intervention efforts.

According to the CS, the government has put adequate measures in place to ensure that no Kenyan suffers from hunger due to food shortages.

He urged local administrators to report any signs of food scarcity early so that emergency support can be deployed in good time.

“We have sufficient resources as a government to ensure no Kenyan sleeps hungry. If there are areas experiencing food challenges, administrators should report immediately so assistance can be provided,” Ruku said.

He further assured livestock farmers that the government has prepared contingency plans to supply animal feed during prolonged dry seasons, especially in regions heavily dependent on pastoralism.

The revelation about Deputy President Kindiki’s health sparked concern among Kenyans, though government officials maintained that his condition is being managed and that he remains actively engaged in national duties through his representatives.
