Treasury CS John Mbadi has vowed never to allow former President Uhuru Kenyatta to "buy" the ODM party.
According to Mbadi, the 2022 General Election is still fresh in their minds, and the betrayal by Uhuru to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is something they will never forget.
The fiery remarks come after recent speculations that Uhuru, once a key ally of Raila, may be attempting to infiltrate and take control of the ODM party.
Mbadi, a close ally of Raila, made it clear that such attempts would be met with strong resistance.
"We will not allow Uhuru to manipulate or purchase our party. The wounds of 2022 are still too raw," he stated, referring to what he described as a political betrayal by the former president.
Uhuru, who was expected to fully back Raila in the 2022 race, was seen as the key figure to help secure Odinga’s victory.
However, Raila's bid was ultimately defeated by the current President William Ruto, a former ally of Uhuru.
The outcome left many, including Mbadi, feeling deceived by the political games that were played behind the scenes.
For Mbadi, this wasn't just a loss; it was a clear case of political betrayal.
"We were all expecting Uhuru to help deliver the presidency to Raila, but he instead sided with Ruto. That was a clear act of betrayal, and no one should forget that," Mbadi added.
As tensions rise within the ODM party and Kenya's political sphere, it remains to be seen whether Uhuru will make further moves to assert his influence.
However, one thing is clear—Mbadi and other ODM leaders are determined to protect the legacy of Raila Odinga and the future of the party.
