Trouble Looms For UDA’s Leonard Wa Muthende As DCP Party and DP Candidate Moves To Court

Mbeere North is suddenly heating up again, this time not at the ballot but in the corridors of justice.

Democratic Party (DCP) candidate Newton Karish has announced plans to challenge the election of UDA’s Leonard Wa Muthende, claiming glaring discrepancies between his official name on the KIEMS kit and the ballot papers.

The move has sent shockwaves through local political circles, leaving UDA strategists scrambling for answers.

The case, spearheaded by lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, promises to be a legal showdown. Details can be seen here: Link.

According to Njiru, these mismatched records are serious enough to warrant nullification of Muthende’s victory, potentially opening the door for a by-election or even a reversal of results.

Karish’s camp argues that the discrepancy could have affected voters who rely strictly on name recognition, pointing out that in tightly contested constituencies, even minor errors can swing the vote.

Meanwhile, local youth and political watchers have taken to social media, buzzing over the potential legal drama.

Some speculate that this might be the first of many challenges in the upcoming wave of by-elections.

Sources close to UDA say the party is reviewing the complaint and preparing a robust defense, insisting that Muthende’s win was fair and reflective of voters’ will.

Despite this, tension is palpable in Siakago town and surrounding wards, with supporters from both sides gearing up for what could become a drawn-out legal battle.

Political analysts say this court challenge highlights a growing trend in Kenya, where candidates are increasingly turning to judicial avenues to contest election outcomes.
