Samia Told What Would've Happened if She Freed Lissu Before Elections And Allowed Him to Vie

Political analyst Herman Manyora has claimed that President Samia Suluhu of Tanzania had no reason to imprison CHADEMA Chairman Tundu Lissu.

Manyora says while Samia's move emanated from fear that Lissu would have defeated her in last month's presidential election, it was pointless.

According to him, Samia would have won even if Lissu had participated in the election, adding that Lissu's detention has now tarnished her image.

“Tundu Lissu would not have beaten Samia Suluhu in a free and fair election," he said on Tuesday, as reported by The People Daily.

"You could not have beaten CCM She has done a great disservice to CCM, the party, because now she has opened up CCM to attack."

According to him, Samia's acts of fear towards CHADEMA have reversed the perception that has been there for decades, that CCM is unbeatable.

He believes that Samia has messed up CCM, sending it into political coldness that could last for a long time before its influence and prestige return.

Lissu was arrested earlier this year on claims of engaging in treasonous activities and has remained in detention ever since.
