A young woman from Nairobi moved many people online after she made a brave but painful decision following the death of her father.
Monicah Njambi Kirubi, a student at the University of Kabianga, shared a screen recording showing the moment she finally deleted her late father’s phone numbers from her contact list.
Njambi explained that although she had gathered the courage to remove the numbers, the memories of her father would always live in her heart.
She posted the emotional video on her Facebook page, where she also wrote a touching caption saying, “I might have gotten the courage to delete my dad’s number, but his memory will live on.”
Her father had two phone numbers, both saved with slight differences in the names.
Each name also had heart emojis at the end, showing how close Njambi was to her father and how much she loved him.
Deleting them was not just removing contacts; it was letting go of one of the last digital reminders she had of him.
In the recording, Njambi scrolled slowly through her contact list until she reached her father’s numbers. She paused every time before pressing the delete option, as if her heart was still fighting the decision.
After a moment of hesitation, she deleted the first number, and then she went on to delete the second one. The deep emotional struggle was clear, and it showed how difficult it is for many people to accept the loss of a loved one.
Many Kenyans who saw her post rushed to comfort her. One user, Jay D. Wanyonyi, offered his condolences and reminded her that God would continue to guide her.
Another person, Pesh Jayden Alvin Shantel, comforted her by saying that memories are treasures that cannot be stolen.
Others shared their own stories of loss, with some admitting that they still keep their parents’ old numbers because they cannot bring themselves to delete them.
Her story also reminded many people about comments recently made by media personality Ciru Muriuki, who warned against using common phrases like “It is well” when talking to grieving people. Ciru explained that such phrases sometimes make the grieving feel misunderstood.
For Njambi, deleting the contacts did not mean forgetting her father. It was simply a tough step in her healing journey, showing courage, love, and a strong desire to move forward while holding her father’s memory close.
