Gachagua Dismisses President Ruto’s State of the Nation Address as Kenyans Express Mixed Reactions

Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has strongly criticised President William Ruto’s latest State of the Nation Address, describing it as empty and lacking meaningful solutions for ordinary Kenyans.

Gachagua, who has recently taken a more vocal role in national debates, argued that the president failed to address the real issues affecting families across the country.

According to Gachagua, the speech sounded more like “public relations” than a sincere report on the country’s progress.

He said that Kenyans were waiting to hear clear plans on lowering the cost of living, tackling unemployment, and reducing the rising tax burden but instead received what he called a “useless speech” with no practical direction.

The DCP leader insisted that leadership should focus on real change, not polished speeches filled with promises that never materialise.

His comments came shortly after the president delivered his annual address, which covered government achievements, ongoing development projects, and plans for the coming year.

While President Ruto highlighted efforts to improve infrastructure, stabilise the economy, and support farmers, his message did not land well with everyone.

Across the country, Kenyans responded with mixed reactions. Some praised the president for outlining major government projects, saying it showed commitment to long-term development.

They pointed to investments in roads, housing, and agriculture as signs that the country is moving in the right direction.

However, others echoed Gachagua’s concerns, arguing that the speech did not reflect the daily struggles they face.

Many felt that the address avoided key challenges such as the high cost of food, increasing electricity bills, and job shortages among the youth.
