Devastated Saudi-based Woman Claims Pastor Who Conned Her Ksh 600K Had Promised Her Marriage

A Kenyan woman working in Saudi Arabia has opened up about how her dream of marriage quickly turned into a painful financial nightmare.

Mercy, who has been in the Gulf for four years, revealed that she met a man who introduced himself as Pastor Joseph.

According to her, what started as a promising online relationship turned into one of the biggest regrets of her life.

Speaking in an interview, Mercy said the two planned to wed in December this year.

She even informed her parents about the wedding date, believing Joseph was serious.

“He told me he had already bought land in Lamu and Meru with my money, and even claimed to have built a house,” she recalled.

Mercy explained that she sent Joseph close to KSh 957,000 over time, believing the funds were being used for their future.

However, when things fell apart, Joseph insisted that he too had been sending her money.

He argued that once his contributions were deducted, the total he received was around KSh 831,000.

But Mercy strongly disputed this, saying Joseph only sent her a few thousand shillings in total.

She accused him of lying and using false documents to cover up his actions.

Matters became worse when she claimed Joseph bribed police officers in Meru, making it difficult for her to pursue justice.

“He insulted me and treated me without respect after I demanded my money back,” she said tearfully.

The story has sparked heated reactions among Kenyans online. Some sympathized with Mercy, especially those familiar with the struggles of domestic workers abroad.

Others, however, criticized her decision to send such a huge amount of money to a man she had only interacted with virtually.

“Money earned in the Gulf is not easy to come by. Women should be very careful before trusting anyone with it,” one social media user commented.
