Alisema Anaitishwa Damu: Last Painful Words Kabete Woman Told Her Husband Before Killing Her Own Daughter

A family in Kabete, Kiambu County, is mourning the brutal killing of an 11-year-old girl, allegedly at the hands of her own mother in what police suspect could be a cult-related act.

The woman, identified as 41-year-old Mary Ngina, was arrested after allegedly murdering her daughter, Irene Waithera, on the morning of November 6, 2025.

The shocking incident occurred shortly after Ngina reportedly made disturbing remarks to her husband that hinted at dark spiritual influences.

Her husband, Joseph Gitau, revealed that his wife’s behaviour had changed drastically after she joined a mysterious religious group in 2019.

He said she had been speaking about unusual spiritual demands. Gitau explained that before the killing, his wife had told him that she was being asked for blood.

Gitau recalled, “She had told me that she was being asked for blood. Things with her started changing in 2019 after she switched churches.”

He said that he became increasingly worried as her personality and faith changed completely from the woman he had married in 2008.

Neighbours in Kabete claimed that the woman had been promised to be made a queen in the strange faith if she carried out the act.

They urged police to investigate the group fully, saying it had recently gained followers in the community.

Police Commander Peter Kimotho confirmed that the suspect is being held in custody as investigations continue.

He stated that detectives are exploring whether the killing was linked to cultic practices.

“The probe will determine why a mother would kill her own daughter,” he said.

The tragic case has sparked outrage across the country, with many Kenyans expressing shock over the rise of cult-related killings in recent months.
