Speaking during an interview with a local media outlet, Ruth claimed that Raila’s compassionate and trusting nature often made him vulnerable to manipulation.
She explained that several politicians misused their proximity to the ODM leader to advance their own agendas, misleading the public into believing they had Raila’s personal endorsement.
“Raila had a very big heart. He believed in people and wanted everyone to succeed. Unfortunately, some individuals exploited that to push their own political ambitions,” Ruth said.
She further revealed that during Raila’s tenure as the African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development, many opportunists took advantage of his frequent absence from the local political scene.
According to Ruth, while Raila was focused on serving the continent, some leaders within his circle used his name to gain political mileage and mislead ODM supporters.
“Because he was busy with his continental duties, some took that as an opportunity to act in his name without his knowledge. He was too kind to reprimand them harshly,” Ruth added.
Ruth noted that Raila often avoided confrontation, choosing instead to maintain unity within the party. She emphasized that her brother’s leadership was guided by empathy and the desire to see others prosper, even at his own expense.
Her remarks come amid renewed debate within ODM about the future of the party and the legacy of Raila Odinga, who remains one of Kenya’s most influential political figures.
