Speaking during a media briefing in Nairobi on Monday, Sifuna said the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) must remain strong and committed to Raila’s lifelong dream of a fair and united Kenya.
He warned that any divisions or power struggles would only weaken the movement that Raila dedicated his life to building.
“Let us not fall into the trap of division. When great leaders depart, their followers often scatter in confusion. We must not allow that to happen to ODM,” Sifuna said.
The senator reminded members that Raila built ODM on firm values of democracy, justice, and equality — principles he said should continue guiding the party.
He urged members to honour Raila’s memory by standing together and defending what he stood for.
“We now call upon the leadership and membership of the party to rally behind Baba’s dream and remain steadfast to the ideals that founded this movement,” Sifuna added.
He assured Kenyans that the party leadership is determined to keep ODM united and focused.
According to Sifuna, personal ambitions or power struggles must not overshadow Raila’s vision.
“We commit that we will not be responsible for any breakup or unnecessary political turbulence that goes against what Raila fought for,” he said.
Sifuna further reaffirmed ODM’s commitment to pushing for democracy, good governance, and social justice — the same causes that defined Raila’s political life.
“ODM is more than a political party. It is a covenant between the people and the dream of a better Kenya. We will remain relentless until that dream — Canaan — is achieved,” he concluded.
His statement comes amid growing speculation within the party on who will take over Raila’s political leadership.
The ODM Central Committee has also scheduled memorial services to honour the late leader’s legacy and reaffirm the party’s unity during this critical transition period.
