According to a statement issued by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna after a Central Committee meeting held on Monday, October 27, the memorials will be held across different counties to give Kenyans an opportunity to celebrate Raila’s legacy as a statesman and liberation hero.
“The party will hold a series of memorial services across the country in recognition of Raila’s contribution to democracy, justice, and national unity,” the statement read.
The first memorial is scheduled for Magarini, Kilifi County, on November 2 and 3, followed by events in Homa Bay and Migori counties on November 5 and 6.
The gatherings are expected to attract thousands of supporters, local leaders, and dignitaries from across the nation and beyond.
Sifuna emphasized that the events will provide an opportunity for Kenyans to come together in reflection and thanksgiving for Raila’s decades of sacrifice and commitment to a better Kenya.
“These memorials are not just about mourning but celebrating a life well lived and a vision that continues to inspire generations,” he said.
The party also confirmed that the upcoming ODM@20 Anniversary, set for November 14 to 16, will double as a grand tribute to Raila’s two-decade leadership.
The celebrations will highlight ODM’s founding ideals of democracy, unity, and transparency while recommitting members to continue Raila’s mission of building an equal and just nation.
“All committees handling the preparations have been directed to continue with plans to ensure the anniversary and memorial services are held in dignity and unity,” Sifuna added.
ODM further called for unity among its members, warning against divisions or political wrangles that could distract from Raila’s dream.
“Raila’s true inheritance is not in titles or positions, but in his belief that Kenya belongs to all of us,” the party noted.
The party also appealed to the national government to release the political party funds owed to ODM to help sustain activities that promote Raila’s legacy.
