“Sifuna is Gachagua’s Mole in ODM” Alai Claims Ahead of 2027 Elections

Nairobi Senator and ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna is facing serious accusations from within his own party.

Robert Alai, Kileleshwa MCA, claims that Sifuna is secretly advancing the agenda of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the Raila Odinga-led party.

Alai alleges that Sifuna has been working to undermine ODM’s strategies as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.

“My party is losing its chance to negotiate strongly with UDA in the upcoming power-sharing talks. Sifuna is acting to weaken ODM so that the party gets the short end of the stick,” Alai said.

According to Alai, ODM had planned to secure a deputy president slot if President William Ruto seeks re-election.

However, Sifuna’s alleged interference has reportedly disrupted these plans. Alai pointed out that leaders like Kindiki have built profiles that make them appear as reliable running mates for Ruto, reducing ODM’s influence in potential negotiations.

The MCA also accused Sifuna of meddling in Nairobi county politics. He cited the failed attempt to impeach Governor Johnson Sakaja, claiming that Sifuna worked with civil society activist Cyprian Nyamwamu to block MCAs from taking action.

“Sifuna and Sakaja have teamed up to make ODM appear unreliable in governing Nairobi,” Alai added.

Alai warned that if Sifuna continues as secretary general, ODM risks performing poorly in the next general election. He described Sifuna as lacking foresight and being unable to lead the party’s strategies effectively.

Despite the accusations, Sifuna has maintained that he will not join ODM members who support Ruto’s government. He is part of Kenya Moja, a growing political movement aiming to challenge the existing political powers and offer an alternative to the traditional parties.

This controversy highlights growing tensions within ODM as leaders prepare for 2027. Allegations of internal sabotage and interference threaten to weaken the party’s unity and negotiating power.

How ODM handles these internal disputes may determine its influence in the next elections, especially in key positions like the deputy presidency and the Nairobi governorship.
