Mbobu, who lived in Karen, was shot in a drive-by attack, raising alarm about the safety of professionals and residents in the city.
Speaking at a church service in Nyeri County on Sunday, September 14, 2025, Gachagua blamed gangs that were previously used for political purposes for the increase in violent crimes.
Speaking at a church service in Nyeri County on Sunday, September 14, 2025, Gachagua blamed gangs that were previously used for political purposes for the increase in violent crimes.
“These gangs were used for p?olitics, and now that the politics are over, they have turned to terrorizing citizens to survive. They will be dismantled, and normalcy will be restored,” he said.
Gachagua described the killing of Mbobu as a professional execution.
“A few days ago, my neighbor was shot eight times by trained killers. People are living in fear because no one knows who might be hired to harm them. Even the sight of a motorbike following your car is enough to scare anyone,” he added.
He emphasized that restoring security would be a top priority if he assumes office.
“We want to make our streets safe again. People should walk freely without fear of being attacked. Those who use violence for a living must face justice,” he said.
The former deputy president also highlighted the wider impact of gangs on public safety. He pointed out that these groups, once employed for political ends, have continued criminal activities even after political events, leaving Nairobi residents vulnerable.
Gachagua’s remarks came shortly after Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka spoke out against the increasing violence targeting professionals.
Kalonzo called for urgent action to prevent such crimes and ensure justice for victims like Kyalo Mbobu.
The rising insecurity in Nairobi has caused widespread concern, with residents reporting robberies, assaults, and targeted attacks. Many now fear moving around, particularly in the evenings, as armed gangs operate openly.
Gachagua, who officially declared his presidential bid on Saturday, September 13, 2025, assured citizens that security reforms would be central to his leadership.
