Gachagua Sends Harsh Message To Ruto As He Launches Caravans In Mount Kenya Ahead Of 2027

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has officially begun a political tour across Mount Kenya, signaling his intent to run for the presidency in 2027.

Speaking to residents in Karatina, Nyeri County, over the weekend, Gachagua presented his plan to unite the region and challenge the current administration led by President William Ruto.

“I have returned with a clear purpose: to seek your support as I prepare to contest the presidency in 2027.

My mission is to strengthen Mount Kenya and ensure our community’s voice is respected nationally,” Gachagua told an enthusiastic crowd.

Gachagua criticized the current government for using strategies he described as divisive, including intimidation, favoritism, and political maneuvering.

He claimed some leaders, allegedly supported by the presidency, are attempting to reduce his influence in the region ahead of the next elections.

He recalled that his return from the United States in August 2025 faced disruptions, forcing him to cancel large gatherings at major venues due to security concerns.

“These challenges indicate that some fear the voice of the people. Mount Kenya must determine its own future,” he said.

During his tour of Murang’a, Kiambu, and Nyeri counties, Gachagua outlined four main objectives for his political movement: unifying Mount Kenya, grooming the next generation of leaders, fostering collaboration with other regions, and peacefully removing the current leadership through democratic means.

He also identified what he described as tactics used to weaken opposition, including supporting multiple candidates from the region to split votes, denying youth access to identity services, intimidating local leaders, and using legal challenges to suppress dissent.

Gachagua warned that Mount Kenya should no longer be divided and urged residents to actively participate in shaping the region’s political future.

The government, through spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, encouraged Gachagua and his supporters to focus on development rather than divisive politics.

However, Gachagua dismissed this advice, saying meaningful progress cannot come from bribery, favoritism, or political schemes.

He pledged to continue touring other parts of Mount Kenya before expanding his campaign to other regions of Kenya.

“Our goal is clear: to remove those who collaborate with an oppressive system. The 2027 elections will mark a new era of empowerment for the people,” he concluded.
