President William Ruto has re-appointed Charles Nyachae to serve as the Chairperson of the Kenya School of Government (KSG).
The announcement was made on Saturday, July 12, 2025, through an official gazette notice. This appointment comes shortly after Nyachae missed out on becoming the Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Nyachae’s new term at the Kenya School of Government will last three years. His re-appointment begins immediately.
He had already served in the same role since January 2024, and his first term was ending on July 12, 2025 — the same day he was re-appointed.
“In exercise of the powers given to me by law, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, re-appoint Charles Nyachae to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya School of Government Council for a period of three years,” the notice stated.
Charles Nyachae was recently one of the final four candidates interviewed for the position of IEBC Chairperson.
The others were Erastus Ethekon, Anne Amadi, and Abdulqadir Ramadhan. Ethekon was eventually chosen and sworn in as the new electoral commission boss.
Nyachae’s journey to the IEBC job, however, was not smooth. A court case had been filed to block his interview.
The petitioner argued that Nyachae was still a state officer because of his position as Chairperson of the Kenya School of Government.
The Constitution bars certain public officers from applying for roles like that of the IEBC Chair while still in office.
The same court petition also targeted Joy Midivo, another shortlisted candidate. The group that filed the case asked the High Court to stop their interviews, saying the IEBC Selection Panel had violated the Constitution and good governance principles.
Despite this legal challenge and not getting the IEBC job, Nyachae has been trusted once again by President Ruto to continue in public service.
Apart from Nyachae, the President also made two other appointments on the same day. Former Lafey Member of Parliament, Abdi Mude Ibrahim, was appointed as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors at the Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute. He will serve for three years.
Also, Ali Noor Ismail, a former Principal Secretary during the Jubilee government, was appointed as the new Chairperson of the Pest Control Products Board. Ismail had served in different ministries, including Labour, Cooperatives, and Environment, from 2013 to 2019.
