Senator Osotsi Responds After Being Invited to Endorse Ruto's 2027 Bid Just Weeks After Goons Attack

Nairobi, Kenya — Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has firmly rejected calls to support President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid, just weeks after political tensions and reported youth-related disruptions rocked parts of Nyanza.

The outspoken lawmaker was responding to remarks by Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda, who suggested that ongoing talks between the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) could culminate in a powerful political formation ahead of the next General Election.

“The talks between ODM and UDA are on course with a bid to form a strong party that will win the elections,” Tom Ojienda said in earlier comments.

However, speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Godfrey Osotsi dismissed the idea of backing President William Ruto, instead raising concerns over what he described as a hidden agenda to dissolve ODM into UDA.

“The ultimate outcome of these talks is to merge ODM into UDA,” Osotsi claimed.

“They continue lying to the President that they will deliver Nyanza. If I were Ruto, I would set aside those misleading him and engage leaders who truly understand the region.”

His remarks point to deepening divisions within ODM, particularly between factions aligned to different strategic directions ahead of 2027.

Godfrey Osotsi is associated with a wing linked to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, which has remained critical of any perceived cooperation with the ruling party.

The comments also come at a politically sensitive time, following recent incidents in Nyanza where youth groups were allegedly involved in clashes during public events—raising broader concerns about political mobilization and influence in the region.

Analysts say the possibility of an ODM–UDA alignment, whether through cooperation or merger, could significantly reshape Kenya’s political landscape.

However, resistance from leaders like Godfrey Osotsi suggests that such a move may face internal pushback.
