Oparanya, Wetangula and Mudavadi Make Unexpected Move to Neutralize Sifuna's Supremacy in Western

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya on Wednesday held a closed-door meeting with more than 30 members of parliament from the Western region. The high-level engagement focused on crafting a unified strategy for the 2027 general elections.

Insiders say the session was convened to consolidate support in the region and counter growing opposition influence, particularly from figures associated with the Orange Democratic Movement.

The three leaders, who represent significant political weight in Western Kenya, sought to address emerging challenges to their influence and rally lawmakers behind a common agenda.

The gathering comes at a time when political realignments are intensifying in the region. Observers note that younger and more aggressive opposition voices have been gaining traction, prompting senior figures to move swiftly to reassert control.

By bringing together a large number of MPs, the trio aimed to strengthen coordination and prevent fragmentation that could weaken their collective bargaining power ahead of the polls.

Western Kenya remains a critical battleground, with its large voter base capable of influencing national outcomes.

The meeting is seen by analysts as a calculated effort to neutralize rival ambitions and ensure that established leaders maintain dominance in shaping the region's political direction.

As the countdown to 2027 continues, such strategic engagements highlight the high stakes involved.

The leaders are expected to intensify mobilization efforts in the coming months to secure loyalty and counter any attempts to erode their longstanding supremacy in the region.
