Osotsi confirms attendance at Linda Mwananchi rally days after Kisumu attack

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has confirmed that he will attend the upcoming Linda Mwananchi rally in Nakuru County, just days after surviving a violent attack in Kisumu.

In a TikTok video shared on Friday, April 10, 2026, the senator, who is currently recovering in a Nairobi hospital, urged Kenyans to turn up in large numbers for the rally scheduled for Sunday, April 12.

“Wakenya wenzangu niko hospitalini lakini mjipange. Nakuru tunakuja. Mambo ni Wantam,” Osotsi said, signaling his determination to continue participating in political activities despite his recent ordeal.

The planned rally is part of a series of political gatherings organised under the Linda Mwananchi movement, a faction within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

The group, associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, has been gaining traction in recent weeks, drawing significant crowds and pushing a strong political message ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Osotsi’s confirmation is expected to energise supporters, with analysts suggesting that his presence—so soon after the attack—could amplify the movement’s visibility and influence.
Details of the Kisumu attack

The senator sustained injuries during an incident on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, in Kisumu County, where he was reportedly attacked by a group of individuals under unclear circumstances.

According to available information, Osotsi had been at a restaurant after a routine visit to a barbershop when the situation escalated into a confrontation.

CCTV footage from the premises is said to show a tense exchange between the senator and a group of rowdy individuals, which later turned violent. His security team intervened to extract him from the scene, preventing further harm.

He was later airlifted to Nairobi for specialised medical attention, where he is currently recuperating.
Defiance despite attack

Osotsi’s decision to attend the Nakuru rally underscores what supporters describe as resilience and commitment to his political cause.

Observers note that his appearance could significantly boost morale among supporters of the Linda Mwananchi movement, while also drawing national attention to the ongoing political discourse.

The movement has been vocal in its opposition to President William Ruto’s administration, with calls for political change in the 2027 elections forming a central part of its messaging.
Political tensions under spotlight

The incident in Kisumu and Osotsi’s subsequent remarks have further highlighted the rising political temperatures in the country.

Leaders across the political divide have expressed concern over increasing cases of violence linked to political activities, calling for restraint and peaceful engagement.
