National Assembly Minority Whip Millie Odhiambo has cautioned members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) against publicly attacking Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, warning that such actions could have unintended political consequences.
Her remarks come at a time when the party is facing internal tensions, with divisions reportedly emerging between the Linda Ground and Linda Mwananchi factions.
The growing rift has raised concerns about unity within ODM as political alignments begin to shift.
Speaking from her office in Mbita Town, Odhiambo emphasized that continued criticism of Sifuna may ultimately strengthen his political standing rather than weaken it.
Drawing from her experience in politics, she noted that public attacks often generate sympathy and increase a leader’s visibility.
"I have been in politics for a long period of time and based on my experience, the continued attacks on Sifuna only build him," Millie said.
She further urged party members to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could be perceived as mistreatment.
According to her, such approaches risk elevating Sifuna’s profile and reinforcing his influence within both the party and the broader political landscape.
"I am not saying Sifuna was not a hero but our mistreatment is what has made Sifuna enjoy the heroism today," Millie said.
Odhiambo’s comments highlight the delicate balance political parties must maintain when handling internal disagreements.
Her warning suggests that internal disputes, if not managed carefully, can inadvertently reshape political narratives and strengthen the very figures they aim to challenge.
