Gaucho Defends Mama Lucy Hospital Appointment, Blames 2024 Gen-Z Protest Boycott For Public Backlash

Calvince Okoth alias Gaucho, newly appointed board member at Mama Lucy Hospital, one of Nairobi's busiest referral hospitals has made a stunning pronouncement, alleging why thousands of Kenyans across the country are strongly against his elevation to the prestigious post.

While speaking candidly during an exclusive interview at NTV on Thursday, 23, April 2026, Gaucho claimed that a section of Kenyans across the country are strongly against his recent appointment, not because of his low academic qualifications by being a standard six (6) dropout, but because of other politically instigated reasons.

Specifically, Gaucho indicated that his bold move to boycott the 2024 Gen-Z led protests against the controversial finance bill rubbed his critics the wrong way, thus prompting them to strongly oppose his new appointment.

"A section of Kenyans are strongly against my appointment as a board member at Mama Lucy Referral Hospital, because I did not participate in the Gen-z protests" Gaucho indicated during the interview.

Affirming his controversial remarks, Gaucho went on to indicate that he chose to boycott the 2024 Gen-Z protests, because when the late Hon Raila Odinga spearheaded demos against bad governance in the country, a section of the Gen-Zs channeled unkind words to him, and also likened him and the then opposition with a bunch of fools.

"When we (opposition) were demonstrating with Sufurias and cooking sticks, they (Gen-Z) were saying that we were fools." Gaucho added during the interview.
