RIP: Beautiful Photos Of Pregnant Woman Who Died At A Nairobi Hospital After Tooth Extraction

A family in Kayole estate in Nairobi is seeking answers after a pregnant woman died following a dental procedure at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital.

Twenty-eight-year-old Viona Munai was nine months pregnant and preparing to welcome her first child.

According to her husband, Eludo Kenya, he took her to the hospital on Sunday, February twenty-four, after she complained of a severe toothache.

She was admitted that night.

He said he returned home expecting routine care but was shocked the next morning to learn that doctors had already removed one of her teeth without his consent.

He later received information that she had been taken to the theatre.

For hours he waited as other patients went in and came out.

Hospital management gave a different account. In a statement, officials said they had ongoing cases in the theatre and had to wait for one operating theatre to be free so that she could be taken in for intervention.

They added that the purpose of taking her to the theatre at that time was not to deliver the baby but to help her breathe through intubation.

The hospital also said Viona was admitted as an emergency patient with a life-threatening dental infection made worse by her pregnancy and that all medical protocols were followed.

Her family remains unconvinced and is calling for investigations.

Cases of alleged medical negligence have been reported in Kenya in recent years, raising concerns about patient safety in public hospitals.
