Uhuru Accused of Being Ruto’s Mole in United Opposition – Mutahi Ngunyi Alleges

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has stirred debate by alleging that retired President Uhuru Kenyatta is acting as a mole for President William Ruto within the united opposition.

In a post shared on X on Thursday evening, February 19, Ngunyi outlined a series of political moves he believes support this claim.

He pointed to recent leadership changes within the Azimio La Umoja coalition, where Uhuru appointed former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka as coalition chair and Suba South MP Caroli Omondi as secretary general.

Ngunyi also highlighted the appointment of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i as Deputy Party Leader of Jubilee Party and as its 2027 presidential candidate, suggesting that these strategic placements have contributed to dividing the opposition.

According to the analyst, Uhuru’s recent meeting with Ruto on the sidelines of the 39th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa raises further questions about his intentions.

Ngunyi asked whether the former president’s actions were meant to fracture the opposition before publicly aligning with Ruto.

The allegations come amid heightened tension within opposition ranks. Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua, a close ally of Kalonzo, recently accused Matiang’i of being a mole in the opposition after he declared that any joint opposition presidential candidate selection must be based on “scientific research” rather than traditional consensus methods.

Ngunyi argued that these developments reflect a broader strategy to weaken opposition cohesion ahead of the 2027 general election.

Analysts note that claims about internal infiltration and factionalism could influence both public perception and strategic negotiations within the Azimio La Umoja coalition.

The debate over Uhuru’s role, whether as a kingmaker or alleged mole, is likely to intensify as the opposition works to consolidate its strategy against Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the coming months.
