Sifuna Can Stay in ODM but Not as Secretary-General - Gladys Wanga

A new political stir has emerged in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) following the removal of Edwin Sifuna from his position as the party’s Secretary-General.

Gladys Wanga has addressed the controversy, clarifying that Sifuna remains free to be a member of ODM if he chooses, but he can no longer represent the party in the capacity of Secretary-General.

Wanga emphasized that party positions carry responsibilities and require adherence to discipline. While she recognized members’ right to freedom of expression, she stressed that official communication on behalf of ODM must come from duly recognized officeholders.

“Sifuna can remain in ODM if he wants, but he cannot speak for the party as Secretary-General,” Wanga stated, underlining the distinction between party membership and official party representation.

The removal of Sifuna has elicited mixed reactions across political circles. Supporters of Sifuna have criticized the decision as politically motivated, arguing that it undermines a vocal and influential party leader.

Others maintain that the move was necessary to restore internal order and unity within ODM.

Sifuna has been prominent in recent political discussions, frequently voicing strong positions on party affairs.

His actions have drawn both support and criticism from different ODM factions, highlighting the growing divisions and realignments within the party as attention shifts towards the 2027 general elections.

Political analysts view this development as part of a broader trend of internal restructuring within ODM, aimed at consolidating leadership and preparing the party for the upcoming electoral contests.

Despite the shake-up, Wanga assured that ODM remains united in its mission and urged members to respect party structures and maintain calm.

The political community is now watching closely to see how Sifuna responds to the change, and whether this internal reshuffle will strengthen the party or deepen existing divisions.
