"Iligonga Mti Ikatupa Watu" Witness Recount Moment Chopper Crashed Killing MP Ngendo, 5 Others

On the evening of Saturday, February 28, tragedy struck in Nandi County after a helicopter carrying Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament Johanna Ng'eno crashed inside Chepkiep Forest in Mosop.

The accident claimed the lives of the legislator and five other occupants, sending shockwaves across the country and plunging leaders and residents into mourning.

According to reports, the aircraft involved was a Eurocopter 350, registration number 5Y-DSB, owned by Youth Aviation Company.

The helicopter is said to have made an emergency landing before attempting to take off again. However, it failed to gain enough lift and stability, leading to a fatal crash moments later.

Eyewitnesses who were near the forest recounted the terrifying moments leading up to the accident. They described heavy mist and extremely poor visibility in the area at the time.

The weather conditions, they believe, may have played a significant role in the helicopter losing control.

One resident narrated that they heard unusual sounds from above before spotting the chopper descending toward the forest.

“There was thick mist everywhere. The helicopter appeared unstable as it came down. It managed to land in the forest, and people nearby began moving closer out of concern,” the witness explained.

According to the accounts, the occupants appeared shaken after the emergency landing.

A small crowd reportedly gathered at a distance as the situation unfolded.

Moments later, the helicopter attempted to take off again. Witnesses said it rose briefly into the air but struggled to stabilize.

“After it lifted off, we heard a loud crash barely two minutes later,” another eyewitness said.

The helicopter reportedly struck several trees before bursting into flames.

The impact scattered the occupants in different directions, making rescue efforts extremely difficult.

Residents rushed to the scene after hearing screams and the sound of the crash. Some attempted to help before emergency responders arrived.

One passenger was reportedly found still breathing, giving a glimmer of hope amid the chaos. Locals tried to resuscitate him, but he sadly succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward.

The crash has sparked renewed concern about flight safety during adverse weather conditions, especially in forested and hilly regions.

Aviation experts are expected to conduct investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident, including whether mechanical failure or weather was the primary factor.

Leaders from across the political divide have since expressed their condolences to the families of the victims.

The death of MP Johanna Ng’eno marks a significant loss to his constituents and the nation at large.

Known for his outspoken nature and active role in parliamentary debates, his sudden passing leaves a gap in the political landscape.

As investigations begin, residents of Mosop continue to replay the heartbreaking moments in their minds.

What started as an emergency landing quickly turned into a devastating incident that claimed six lives, reminding the nation of how fragile life can be.
