Gachagua Out of 2027 Equation as Details Emerge on Uhuru’s Preferred Flagbearer and Running Mate

Fresh political reports have sparked debate across Kenya after claims emerged that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is backing a Kalonzo Musyoka–Martha Karua ticket ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The reports, first highlighted by TV47, suggest that talks within sections of the opposition are already shaping a possible lineup aimed at challenging President William Ruto’s camp.

According to insiders quoted in the report, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is being considered for the position of Chief Cabinet Secretary should the proposed team form the next government.

While these claims have not been officially confirmed, they have quickly attracted public attention and renewed speculation about shifting political alliances.

One of the biggest talking points arising from the reports is the uncertain political future of Democracy for Citizens’ Party leader Rigathi Gachagua.

The former Deputy President remains an influential figure in Mt Kenya politics, but the emerging lineup mentioned in the reports does not clearly indicate any role he might play if the opposition were to succeed in 2027.

The developments come at a time when political temperatures in the Mt Kenya region appear to be rising.

A separate report by NTV indicated that a number of leaders elected under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party are allegedly considering moving toward the opposition.

Such a shift, if it happens, could significantly change the political landscape in the region, which has traditionally been a key voting bloc in national elections.

Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wa, who also serves as the Leader of the Majority in the National Assembly, is among leaders whose political future has been the subject of speculation.

However, no official statement has been issued by him regarding the claims of possible realignment.

Political analysts say that early alliances and negotiations are common several years before a general election, as leaders seek to strengthen their chances and build broad coalitions.

However, they also caution that many proposed lineups often change as elections approach due to negotiations, regional interests, and party dynamics.

By the time of publication, neither Kalonzo Musyoka nor Martha Karua had publicly responded to the TV47 report about the alleged endorsement by Uhuru Kenyatta.

The former president himself has also not issued any statement confirming or denying the claims.
