Wetangula and Khaniri Named As DCI Records Statements In Cyrus Jirongo Death Case

Speaker Wetangula and several others have recorded statements at the DCI over the death of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo. The agency confirmed that twenty eight people have so far given accounts to detectives. The probe focuses on a fatal road crash that happened on December 13 2025 at Karai along the Nairobi Nakuru Highway.

Investigators say the inquiry remains active and detailed as officers review many sources of information. Statements from witnesses are being checked against technical findings and scene analysis. The aim is to answer public questions while keeping fairness and speed at the center of the work.

Seven passengers who were traveling in the bus involved in the crash later came forward to help police. Their accounts are considered important to rebuild the final moments before impact. Detectives say these statements are being reviewed with care.

The DCI confirmed that National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula recorded his statement early and did so voluntarily. Investigators also took a statement from Eunice Chelagat the wife of Vihiga Senator George Khaniri. Senator Khaniri later recorded a further statement to assist the inquiry.

Detectives noted that Senator Khaniri and his wife visited the crash scene on the day it occurred. They also helped to facilitate the transfer of Jirongo remains from Naivasha Sub County Hospital Mortuary to Lee Funeral Home. These actions were placed on the official timeline for review.

An autopsy on the body revealed severe internal injuries caused by blunt force trauma. The pathologist reported crush chest injuries a broken sternum and deep lacerations to the heart liver and kidneys. The cause of death was listed as multiple crush injuries.

In its update the DCI urged media houses leaders and the public to avoid speculation. Officials warned that careless claims could hurt the investigation and damage the names of those who cooperated. The agency said impartiality remains a core duty.

Detectives say the inquiry will be completed before the file is sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions. They stressed that timelines matter but accuracy matters more during evidence comparison. Any further action will depend strictly on findings presented under the law.

Officials added that investigators are comparing reports witness accounts and expert reviews without pressure. The team says every step follows the law and procedure. The DCI promised updates only when facts are confirmed to protect integrity and public trust nationwide today.
