Just over a year to the 2027 General Election, the report sketches an administration under growing pressure, battling crises on nearly every front.
The biggest blow landed on Thursday when the High Court struck down the creation of presidential advisory offices, nullifying the appointment of 21 advisers. The ruling not only embarrassed the executive but also dismantled a key pillar of Ruto’s governance style, dealing a constitutional slap to an administration already struggling to steady itself.
Inside the ruling United Democratic Alliance, cracks are widening. Grassroots elections in 42 counties were abruptly canceled following complaints, raising fresh doubts about party unity and preparedness ahead of nominations. The chaos threatens to weaken Ruto’s political machine at a time when cohesion is critical.
At the same time, the much-talked-about UDA–ODM cooperation is facing resistance, with figures like Ruth Odinga warning against hurried alliances. Opposition leaders, led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, are capitalizing on Mount Kenya discontent to mount a renewed offensive against the president.
Beyond politics, pressure is boiling over across key sectors: looming drought, ballooning debt, stalled health services, teacher shortages, potential strikes, and public anger over high taxes and youth unemployment.
Analysts say the contrast between Ruto’s optimistic messaging and citizens’ daily struggles is becoming increasingly stark.
