"Ruto Will Do Everything Possible To Secure His Re-election But Mt Kenya Will Do This" UDA MP

Embakasi North MP James Gakuya has claimed that President William Ruto is fully focused on securing a second term in 2027 and is ready to deploy every available strategy to achieve that goal, but insisted that voters from the Mt Kenya region will ultimately chart their own political path.

Speaking during a public engagement, Gakuya said President Ruto is determined to be re-elected and will use all mechanisms and resources required to retain power.

However, he argued that despite the intense political mobilisation expected ahead of the next General Election, the people of Mt Kenya will make an independent decision at the ballot.

“Ruto is determined to be re-elected and will use all mechanisms and resources required to achieve this. However, in the end, the people of Mt Kenya know where to go at the right time,” Gakuya said.

The legislator revealed that, in his view, the Mt Kenya vote will shift towards the opposition and back an opposition leader as the next president.

He noted that the region has a strong voting population and has in the past played a decisive role in shaping national leadership.

Gakuya’s remarks come amid growing political activity as both government and opposition leaders intensify early campaigns ahead of 2027.

Mt Kenya remains a key battleground, with leaders from both sides frequently touring the region to consolidate support.

The MP argued that voters in the region are increasingly evaluating leadership based on economic performance, cost of living, and delivery of campaign promises.

He claimed that many residents feel frustrated by the rising cost of basic commodities and unmet expectations.

According to Gakuya, these concerns are likely to influence how the region votes in the next election.

He maintained that Mt Kenya voters are politically aware and cannot be taken for granted.

His comments add to the widening debate over President Ruto’s re-election prospects and the opposition’s strategy to win over regions that traditionally support the government of the day.

As the 2027 race slowly takes shape, Mt Kenya is once again emerging as a central focus in Kenya’s political landscape.
