"I am Called Tribal, Yet I'm the One Speaking About Hunger" Gachagua Speaks on Northern Kenya Crisis

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has strongly criticised the current DP, Kithure Kindiki over what he calls failure to address the hunger crisis in Northern Kenya. Speaking during a public forum, Gachagua questioned why leaders have remained silent four months after the dry season began.

Gachagua said that people in counties such as Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Isiolo, and Turkana are suffering and dying because of hunger. He wondered why leaders who are supposed to defend the people from these regions are quiet, yet the problem is clear and urgent.

According to Gachagua, instead of focusing on the suffering citizens, some leaders are busy campaigning and playing cheap politics. He accused Kindiki, who replaced him as Deputy President’s close ally in government leadership, of neglecting his duty as Interior CS. Gachagua said Kindiki should be at the forefront coordinating government response, security, and humanitarian support in the affected areas.
